I guess that would depend on your definition of "practical," and how long the trip is, and thus how many charging sessions are required. When last I looked, the Bolt's price - under $26k! - was tough to pass up. That is just astounding for a 259 mile range. The difference between that and, say, a Tesla 3, would buy a heck of a lot of road trip ICEV rentals. As for waiting for something better, yeah, that's a strategy. It depends though on what you want. You'd need to be OK with expensive SUVs and crossovers, because that's just about all the automakers seem to be introducing and have plans to introduce. They don't want to sell small, practical, reasonably-priced EVs any more than they want to sell small, practical, reasonably-priced ICEVs.
