I hear what you are saying but I don't think it is that regressive. I think of it more along the lines of getting rid of "Free Gasoline" as the number of ICE vehicles increases. You have to make those gasoline stations self supporting and maintainable.
A "fill up" of electrons is not that expensive from a SuperCharger network. I've paid anywhere from $8 to $12 for that privilege. Compare that to filling up a 10 gallon Prius tank where gasoline is around $4.50/gallon; Electricity is cheap and definitely affordable for now. I think I would like to see subsidies be in place until we are "Energy Independent". We currently use about 17 MBO a day but only produce 12 to 13 MBO a day. We know we can't drill our way out of this predicament and we were importing some of that oil from Russia. PS.
