Here are a couple of early EV list messages referencing Electrathon racing and cars. I hope Bill doesn't object to the memories. :-)

My Electrathon vehicle will do about 45 mph in top gear, wide open. It won't do this for long, but it will do it. Most Electrathon vehicles travel about 25 miles in an hour. Some do more. Others do less. They do this on two 22NF batteries that weigh about 64 pounds. The vehicles typically weigh about 350 to 400 pounds with the driver. The big drawback is safety. The little 'thon vehicle might be tough to see by a big ICE driver that is not expecting anything so small to be on the road. I doubt that some ICE drivers would even notice as they squashed you like a bug. I would think that a slightly larger vehicle would be best for everyday use on main streets. My friend, Jay Taylor, converted an old BMW Iseta (Steve Urkle type car). It had the range and top speed very close to what you are asking for. I think he used a golf cart motor, 48 volts of batteries, and a Curtis controller. I know that he didn't have a tremendous amount of money into it. He also converted a motorcycle in a similar manner. Again, he didn't spend a lot of money to do it. These sorts of conversions might be just the ticket for you. Paul Anschel <pa067203@xxxx> has converted a motorcycle as well. I'm sure he didn't spend a lot of money either. You might want to talk to him about his conversion. I think he has a small web page too. _ /| \'o.O' =(___)= U Bill Dube' (dewBAY) bdube@xxxx ===== Date: Tue, 10 Dec 1996 14:07:55 -0700 Reply-To: Electric Vehicle Discussion List <EV@xxxx> Sender: Electric Vehicle Discussion List <EV@xxxx> From: Bill Dube' <bdube@xxxx> Subject: Electrathon Stuff (new record) I just got my Electrathon newsletter last night. I was happy to see that a new distance record of just over 37 miles was set. This was on a velodrome and was set by Loy Cloud in Dave Cloud's car. This is really quite an accomplishment using 64 pounds of lead-acid batteries. Does anyone know if there is going to be a national Electrathon event this year? I know last year's nationals were a nightmare for Gary Raymond and I wouldn't blame him for intellegent pain-avoidance this time around. I have a new (tiny) driver/helper this year and I fully intend to make the "Black Canoe" fully functional for the coming season. _ /| \'o.O' =(___)= U Bill Dube' (dewBAY) bdube@xxxx David Roden, EVDL moderator & general lackey To reach me, don't reply to this message; I won't get it.
