The Bolt reduces the charging current as the battery get's above 55% SOC. By the time it gets to 85%, even on a DC fast charger, you are only charging 15 kw. From 95% to 100% the Bolt only allows 10 kw charging. Depending on the charger fees, it often makes sense to stop and restart the charging after it gets above 55% (to get a cheaper rate on some DC fast chargers)
Chevy Sales and Marketing often leaves a lot to be desired (when it comes to EVs), but their Engineering team is top notch. Some will say their charging limits are overly conservative. However, most if not all of their 1st Gen Volts still have all of their original range, which means that many of them have MORE range now than many 1st Gen Nissan Leafs, even though the Leafs had 3x as much range originally. I expect the Bolts battery pack will last a LOOOONG time, especailly if you avoid charging it over 80%, and discharging below 20%, on a regular basis.
