If that's really true, that's an incredible statement on how much energy we're wasting. It says, effectively, that we could power 100% of our auto usage with the energy only used to *produce* gasoline. Not sure how much more would be needed for public transportation, short and long haul freight, but it would make a good dent in that, too.

Last year in the USA, refineries purchased 41,140 MILLION kwhs of electricity
from the grid.
Thats enough to power approx 9.6 million electric vehicles for 15,000 miles
each.

In addition they purchased 940 billion cubic feet of Natural Gas. Thats enough
to power an additional 220 million EVs for 15,000 miles each (if used in NG
Power plants)

https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pnp_capfuel_dcu_nus_a.htm

THey also purchase steam which could be used to run turbines and power
additional EVs.

This doesn't even consider the electricity/energy used to extract the petroleum
from the ground, move the petroleum around or power the gas stations. Plus
I've seen adds from fossil fuel companies that state that we use MORE energy
searching for new fossil fuel reserves than the get from those new reserves.

Nearly one-half the energy consumed by refineries is obtained from by-product
refinery gas and
coke, and about one-third is supplied by natural gas. They don’t buy
electricity the generate their
 own.

Last time I ran the numbers, every fuel vehicle in the world is being

There’s a huge amount that you could do with that money.

Lawrence is right, Based on my research, just the Electrical energy used
ALONE for all the processes that culminate with a gallon of gasoline in
your tank can move an average EV at least 50 miles. Another surprising
fact: CA's largest industrial user of electricity is petroleum.

I would think that simply not using a liquid powered vehicle would have
these benefits and energy gains. Energy loss to: Survey, drill, pump,
transport, refine(this is a big one) distribute, pump again and then you
get the energy to use plus the added benefit of poisoning every one
breathing the atmosphere. The elimination of fossil fuels would free up all
that energy to use in the electrical grid. So have no fear of running out
of energy. There will be a reduction of energy use with every new electric
vehicle. Don't get me started with product packaging and the use of
 plastics. Lawrence Rhodes
