This seems unjust. From what I can see, if you're going to use public charging much, you end up with a pocket full of RFID cards and a bunch of apps on your mobile phone. Also, some EVSEs support many types of connections, others just a few. You have to find out which ones your EV can use, and where they are. Then you spend extra time planning your trip around where you can find the EVSEs you need. What if you get there and the EVSE isn't working, or is in use? More disruption and delay. What ICEV driver has to mess around with such rubbish? The sign on the freeway says "Gas Food Lodging," so you hop off. You drive up to the pump, pop your credit card into it, and fill up the tank. Done. The only connector problem is gasoline or Diesel. And there are usually anywhere from 4 to 18 or 20 connections for "charging" your ICEV, so it's not often that all of them are occupied. I realize that there are fewer EV drivers, but imagine what ICEV driving would be like if every brand of gasoline required a different credit card, and every different brand of ICEVs required a different gas pump nozzle. Why do we have to put up with this? When will it get better? (Rhetorical questions.)
