Paul,
Thanks, this confirms that it is likely *possible* to fit the 30kWh to
an old Leaf, but just like the 2013+ have a different design and wiring
internally, you need to do what I did to fit the 2015 "Lizard" pack into
a 2011 Leaf and that is to take the 2011 shell and BMS (which already
has the correct plugs to attach to the 2011 Leaf) and find a way to
mount the 30kWh modules into the 2011 shell, using the hardware from the
30kWh pack, but adapting the 2011 BMS wiring to connect to the 96 cells.
If the 30kWh pack's modules are physically twice the thickness of the
old modules then this is trivial as all modules in the 2011 pack are
mounted in even numbers (stacks of 2, 4 and 24)
It would be a challenge (adapting the 2011 BMS wiring to the 2015
modules was no problem, but putting the optimized 2015 BMS wiring onto
an old pack of used 2011 cells was more of a challenge, I found out -
not because of the modules as they were mechanically quite compatible,
but the redesigned contactors and service disconnect and current sensor
were more of a challenge to mount into a 2011 shell. I have done almost
1000 miles with it since this mod, so apparently it works.
