Thanks for that observation.  I hadn't noticed that it was the same 
reporter.  Very interesting.  It does make you wonder if there might be an 
agenda here.

I don't spend much time in bike shops, but this is my impression too.  There 
seem to be plenty expensive high-end bikes for enthusiasts, but only a few 
choices if any in e-bikes.

The "greener" areas of the US sometimes have specialty e-bike shops, and 
they often sell on the internet too.  A couple of examples are EVsNW in 
Seattle (which IIRC used to also offer 4-wheel EV components many years 
ago), and NYCEWheels in New York.  

(Incidentally, if e-bikes are allegedly "illegal" in NYC, how do you suppose 
NYCEWheels survives?)

But again, I haven't been to a bike shop around here lately, so maybe the 
offerings have changed.
