The car knocked over a stroller holding a baby, which fell to the ground but was not injured. Photo: 163.com ] A young boy made tracks at a Beijing auto show on Saturday when he accidentally drove an electric car into a crowd, Beijing Morning Post reported on Monday. A witness said the child crawled into a white Tesla on exhibit at Tongzhou Wanda Plaza around 2 pm when the vehicle started and suddenly lunged into a startled crowd. "The windshield wipers were going, then the engine started and the car rushed forward," the witness said. The e-vehicle traveled a total five meters before coming to a stop, but not before bumping into a red stroller containing a baby. The infant fell to the ground, and was immediately picked up by its mother. Though the father called an ambulance, the family left before medics arrived, an emergency dispatch center employee said. A Tesla employee at the show refused to disclose whether a key was left in the ignition, media reported. It was unclear what brought the vehicle to a stop. "Employees quickly brought the situation under control and no injuries resulted," Tesla responded on its official Weibo account Sunday. While some netizens blamed the event organizer for the accident, most Net users condemned the boy's parents for failing to keep an eye on their child. "Boys are mischievous, but are their parents mischievous too?" a Sina Weibo user commented. Sure, you’d expect kids to be attended by an adult who takes care of them - no matter how big of a future driver they seem to be. Unfortunately, attempting to drive off in a Tesla Model S was not the only problem the young EV-enthusiast got himself into, but also hitting a person with the car. Who said EVs are boring, silent and far from anything close to an old-school car? No, electricity-munchers are in fact a lot more than that and appear to be what we’ll be all seeing on the streets in the future. Whether they're going to be hybrids at first, sooner or later most of the regular cars on the road will be passing by with the same speed sportscars do today without sipping one drop of fuel. This poor kid seems like he knew that since he liked the white Tesla so much he simply had to get his hands on the wheel. The car was on exhibition at a mall in Beijing on Saturday when the boy slipped into the driver’s seat and...well, pushed the pedal. It could be a funny story, even a cute one for Elon Musk’s fans, but it’s not because he hit a pregnant woman in the process. Now, the fault might as well belong to the Tesla Motors China who most likely shouldn’t have let the cars unattended. According to Shanghaiist, the two cars on display were unlocked so that viewers could enter and get the proper feeling. Luckily, the car seemingly took off at slow speed so the injuries were probably minor. I'm letting my 16 year old son use it to drive to school occasionally, at night when he wants to go out, and during the weekend when I don't need it cpetrush | 25 Novembre 2012 ... No way will my teen drive this car. Aside from safety issues mentioned, consider what you're teaching your kids. If they have access to a car like this when they're just a kid, what does the future hold? What will he/she dream of and work for? What will it take to bring him joy later in life? Because you can bet it won't be buying that first brand new Honda, Toyota, whatever. Let them be thankful for the little things and dream of their own Tesla...someday.
