 - Seven seat version in demand for VIP transfer, hotels, taxis and private
customers

 - Folding second and third row make seven seat version the most versatile
electric vehicle on the market

 - Special edition of the Nissan LEAF, Europe’s best-selling all- electric
car, makes its debut

Thanks to growing requests from companies and fleets alike, Nissan has
announced it is bringing forward the introduction of the latest iteration in
its electric vehicle line-up – a seven seat version of the all-electric
e-NV200.

Since its inception, a seven seat version of the revolutionary van has
always been part of Nissan’s plans, fulfilling an unmet need for an electric
vehicle that can move a larger number of people. From taxi fleets to shuttle
services and even to large families, the seven seat e-NV200 Evalia offers a
zero-emission solution. For those with a more regular need to move cargo and
an occasional need for seven seats, the Combi version of the e-NV200 can
also be specified with the larger seating capacity.

Nissan Europe’s director of electric vehicles, Jean-Pierre Diernaz explains
the introduction, commenting:“We have always planned to offer a
higher-seating capacity version of the Nissan e-NV200. Marketplace demand
has meant we have moved this introduction forward by several months to
satisfy this need. Nissan has had requests from taxi companies, VIP transfer
services, hotels and private motorists who are interested in buying this
uniquely flexible and capable vehicle.”

The seven seat version of the e-NV200 is configured with two seats in the
front, three in the middle and two in the rear. Both the second and third
rows can be folded to allow for larger quantities of luggage to be carried,
making the new variant a hugely flexible vehicle for commercial or private
use. The second row rolls forward and the third row folds to the sides to
open up an enormous 2.94 cubic metres of cargo capacity, which is enough to
transport three bicycles with the wheels in place, unique in this class.
With all three rows in place, the luggage capacity is 443 litres under the
tonneau cover, and up to an impressive 870 litres when measured to the roof
line, allowing the possibility to carry seven people and a large volume of
luggage.

To increase passenger comfort the seven seat passenger version comes
equipped with additional rear air conditioning to ensure a more even
temperature through the cabin, even for those in the third row of seating.

The new model is available with the CHAdeMO quick charging system, which
gives the access to the most widely installed rapid charging system in
Europe today with over 1,500 accessible points. The quick charging option
allows businesses or drivers to extend journeys or do multiple short
journeys in a day with a quick top up. Already, users of the e-NV200 like
Taxi Electric in the Netherlands and C&C Taxis in the UK have installed
their own quick chargers to increase utilisation and flexibility.

The van and five seat versions of the e-NV200 were launched last summer and
have already met with a very positive reception with orders from taxi
companies across Europe in addition to large fleets like DHL Express in
Italy, and APM, part of the Maersk group. Diernaz is unsurprised by this
interest, commenting: “The benefits are clear, electricity as a fuel is much
cheaper than diesel, even with the recent drop in prices. Maintenance is 40
percent cheaper and the vehicle is quieter, smoother and faster than the
diesel equivalent.”

The new e-NV200 version is joined on the Geneva stage by a special edition
of the Nissan LEAF, which has just celebrated a record sales year in 2014,
with sales up 33 percent. To celebrate its fourth year as the best-selling
pure electric car globally and in Europe, the limited edition has been given
an eye-catching new 17-inch wheel design and additional standard equipment.
This limited edition, based on the Acenta grade, gives customers two types
of cable, enabling them to use charge points fitted with conventional
domestic plugs or the faster type two charging stations also complemented by
the standard fitment* of the 6.6 kW on board charger, which allows the
Nissan LEAF to go from empty to full in four hours on a compatible 32 amp
supply.

The Nissan e-NV200 7-seat is available in both commercial Combi trim level
or the fully trimmed Evalia passenger version and is available to order from
April.

* Denmark will not have this fitted due to 32 amp charging not being
available in this market.

Nearly a year after it first came off the production line in Barcelona,
Spain, Nissan’s all-electric e-NV200 minivan will soon be available to order
in Europe with 7-seats.

Announced this morning by Nissan Motors Europe at the start of the 2015
Geneva Auto Show, the all-electric vehicle — previously available in Europe
as a commercial two-seat panel van, five-seat crew-cab panel van and
five-seat minivan — can now be specced with a third row of seats, increasing
the total number of seats from 5 to 7.

Built next to the gasoline and diesel NV200 on the same production line, the
e-NV200 offers similar functionality to its fossil-fuel burning sibling, but
is powered by the same 24 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack and 80
kilowatt electric motor found in the Nissan LEAF electric car, modified
slightly to make it more suitable for the heavier demands of life as a
commercial vehicle.

It comes with the same charging functionality as the LEAF too, with 3
kilowatt on-board or 6 kilowatt on-board charging as standard depending on
the trim level, along with optional CHAdeMO DC quick charging too.

It’s worth noting too that the NV200 has always been offered with seven
seats, due to its different underbody structure and power train. Due to
battery pack and power electronic placement in the e-NV200 — under the floor
of the vehicle — we understand adding the third row in the electric version
presented some extra engineering challenges from a crash test protection
point of view.

In Japan, where crash-test requirements are different to Europe, Nissan has
been offering a seven-seat e-NV200 in ‘Wagon G’ Trim level since the vehicle
was launched there last year.

As with the five-seat variant, the new 7-seat e-NV200, which is available in
range-topping ‘Evalia’ trim or hard-wearing ‘Combi’ trim, features sliding
rear doors to allow access to the rear passenger space, with a simple seat
back tilt granting access to the rearmost row. Nissan also says it has
added additional rear air conditioning to ensure that second and third row
passengers are kept comfortable during their travel, whatever the weather.

In its default guise, the 7-seat e-NV200 Evalia also comes with a single
piece tailgate rather than twin hinged doors, although we believe the latter
may be specced at point of order.

When it comes to cargo, Nissan says there’s 443 litres (15 cubic feet)
behind the third row under the load bay tonneau cover, or 870 litres (30
cubic feet) when filled to the roof line. This makes it ideal for life as a
private-hire minicab, an airport transfer shuttle, or a family car. Indeed,
both second and third row seats can be folded away to accommodate three
full-sized bicycles, without requiring any dismantling of the bicycles
first.

Prices and final specification for the 7-seat e-NV200 hasn’t been released
yet, but we’d hope the difference in price between five and seven seats
would be an additional few thousand as it is with the non plug-in NV200.
Both Combi and Evalia trim 7-seat models will be available to order from
April.

At this point, we feel it’s probably worth mentioning that while those extra
two seats will certainly make the e-NV200 more appealing to large families
and small businesses looking for the most versatile electric vehicle they
can buy, driving around with those rear seats filled could impact total
range per charge. While that is likely to only be a few percent of the
official NEDC rating, it’s worth remembering if you’re planning to do any
long-distance trips in it.

As for the U.S.?
Like the rest of the e-NV200 family, Nissan hasn’t announced when the
e-NV200 will head stateside, but the preferred explanation at the moment is
that Nissan is holding back on a U.S. launch until it can increase the range
offered per charge thanks to a more energy-dense battery pack it’s working
on.

Do you welcome the new 7-seat e-NV200? Would you like to buy one? And do you
think the e-NV200 7-seat version will become the domain of taxi firms around
the world looking for a heavy-duty workhorse for inner-city fares?
