The energy giant is planning to build its own EV-charging network in the US and will start working on the project within six months, according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke with Bidness Etc. Exxon Mobil decided to enter the EV market as it expects that total plug-in and hybrid EV sales will comprise 40% of total auto sales, as per the company’s report, “The Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040.” The world’s largest energy giant has been aiding electric-charging stations; in the past, Exxon Mobil transferred the assets of its Swiss fuel-supply business, Esso Schweiz, to the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), which opened EV-charging stations in Switzerland. Considering a strong EV outlook, Exxon Mobile launched its small, all-electric, five-door hatchback (dubbed “Maya 300”) in early 2008, in partnership with electric-battery supplier Electrovaya.
