This is fantastic news! As much as I hate the oil companies, the best
way to get them to stop selling oil is to get them to sell something
else.

The US-based oil and natural gas multinational, Exxon Mobil Corporation
is
looking to tap the growing demand for electric vehicles (EV) around the
world.
The energy giant is planning to build its own EV-charging network in
the US
and will start working on the project within six months, according to a
person familiar with the matter who spoke with Bidness Etc.
Exxon Mobil decided to enter the EV market as it expects that total
plug-in
and hybrid EV sales will comprise 40% of total auto sales, as per the
company’s report, “The Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040.”
The world’s largest energy giant has been aiding electric-charging
stations;
in the past, Exxon Mobil transferred the assets of its Swiss
fuel-supply
business, Esso Schweiz, to the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic
(SOCAR), which opened EV-charging stations in Switzerland.
Considering a strong EV outlook, Exxon Mobile launched its small,
all-electric, five-door hatchback (dubbed “Maya 300”) in early 2008, in
partnership with electric-battery supplier Electrovaya. The EV had a

range of 60-120 miles and a top speed of 30 mph ...
