Yeah, I don't understand the rationale for this, seems penny wise and pound
foolish. Year after year I read posts complaining about less range in
winter.  Mine doesn't change much since I heat the pack to 65F when parked
at home. Doesn't take much, 350W max, but the heaters aren't on all the
time, boxes are insulated so the cells remain above 50 F when parked outside
in mid-20s F for 5 hours. Of course running the cabin heater reduces range,
but many times daytime temps are in the mid-30's to mid-40's so I don't need
cabin heat (wear a jacket) and range is then similar to summer. I'd also
guess that repeated use of the pack at low temperatures reduces pack life.
Doesn't seem worth it to save a few hundred bucks.  I don't think NIH is the
reason, they probably just thought it was an added cost that would improve
performance but was not required. In Minn I'd say it's required! How are you
supposed to use it when temps drop to -30 F?
