My senior management have noticed, so I’ve logged it to get the ball moving.

We're seeing slow responses from searches from the address bar, but not with other connections, so assumed the assumed the root cause wasn't with Firefox but with our Firewall (as it manages the internet traffic). Using the search bar (as you pointed out) doesn't trigger the delay, so is a good workaround. Something we've noticed is that searches from the address bar won't trigger the delay if done immediately after the first search resolves. Then after a couple of minutes the delay is triggered again.
