Hello,

yes, it's intentional. It's the reason you need to switch to Internet
Explorer to do your taxes (or register customs) in Germany.

Why is this not configurable?

DHL fails to print shipping documents if it can't access Adobe Reader
plugin. I know this is stupid design but I'm supporting users here - they
didn't design it. If it was possible to put dhl.de on a whitelist for this
plugin, this would be a fixable problem. If there was a whitelist where we
could put "internetzollanmeldung.de" to enable java, Firefox would still
be a usable browser.

And it doesn't even tell you. It says "Plugin not found". Misleading error
messages! This makes me want to yell at somebody. This wastes so much time
trying to debug a Browser just because you crippled support and didn't
even bother to write a proper error message.

If you ask DHL support, they say "it works in IE, use IE". I know this
sentence from 12 years ago - i hoped those times were over...

As it is now, everybody who works in shipping needs to use Internet
Explorer - and it's just because someone at Mozilla decided to break
something on purpose that is needed for work.

Yes I could downgrade to x86-Firefox, but that would only delay the switch
to IE by a few months, so why bother.

Best Regards
 Heiko Helmle

This is intentional. See my post about this from last year:

So it appears that there is a major difference between x64 and x86
versions; Java does not function in ESR 45.2.0 x64, but it does in x86.
It seems that app NPAPI plugins function in x86, but only Flash does in
x64. Is there a reason for this inconsistency between architectures?
