I hadn't considered that till just now. I have also considered cutting the casting for the hook on one side, and milling the other side where one would normally have the gib stripe, and bringing in a strap of the correct thickness, angled for the way contact, and putting several bolts to be loosened to let it be brought up to hand contact & tightening the bolts to maintain that setting. Bigger sticks of that can be ordered, and it would at least be fairly straight, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for any gib strip out of either the lathe or this mill when laid on the granite on first disassembly.
