Recycled coat hangers or > similar junk IMO. You could use Ground Flat Stock (AKA Gauge Plate), although the surface would need some work, as it is, to my mind, too roughly ground as supplied. If you have lots of enthusiasm, I suppose you could hand scrape it; it does make a surprising difference. I milled some grooves to retain oil, in my existing gib strips. I also created an oiling system which lets me get oil in between the sliding surfaces.
