I had two CD's, each one of the was checked and also installed to other boxes 
suxssfully.

Also this was done. I usually exchange a cd-rom against a DVD drive as I found 
these read more reliable. As mentioned in other earlier posts, I was finally 
able to verify that an install to hd in another box, then brought back to my 
surdy but stubbern problem box boots succesfully apart from blanking the screen 
at readining initrd.

So, also thank you very much for these tips, it is true sometimes the very 
obvious gets looked over.
