A quick update: This error is preventing me from doing most things with org-mode, including using capture.
So I customized the variable Bernt referred to instead of putting it in my init file. Still get a recursion error. So I upped 'max-specpdl-size' and 'max-lisp-eval-depth' to huge values. Emacs chokes and dies when calling the agenda or when calling org-capture. I'm going to go run errands with a hand-written list. :-D Thanks in advance for any more help. I'll play around with it more tonight.
