Personally I started using many little files, but am preferring big files, so am
gradually consolidating files when necessary. Column view, searching, and
especially imenu make it quick to find things. I use some minibuffer packages
such as consult and vertico that make it nicer; check out a video by Prot if

In general, do what works for you.
