What you suggest sounds like a complication. Not that I oppose the idea that such fontification may be good-looking for some users, but I am not sure if we need to support it explicitly in Org mode. Did you try setting font-lock-keywords to fine-tune the fontification? It is always possible when you need a really custom fontification.
