I've never seen the behaviour you described. (VFO encoder not responding until a key is pressed, after being idle for several minutes). Sounds like some kind of issue with your rig. I would reload all firmware, including tables and see if that helps. Otherwise, perhaps you have a problem with the VFO A encoder.
