Agreed, you can go to <http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/> or in particular <http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm> to find out what is and is not allowed carry-on or checked in the USA. As others have suggested I would be careful about large batteries (larger than a 'D' cell). Spillable lead-acid are not allowed except for in wheelchairs for example.
