I was so surprised Lyle that I have just downloaded the manual to see
for myself :-) Sure enough, no transverter port! It does have the
usual linear amp switching though including ALC input (remote connector
pin 6). I personally find this a more elegant solution than the
attenuator as well as being much easier to implement. If the ALC
voltage is tied to the transverter on/off switching, then it should
automatically reduce the power only when needed. Not totally foolproof,
but should work.

I'm helping a friend out who bought a 222 transverter from
Elecraft but wants to use it with his TS850S. The 850 will
only go down to 9 watts and the Elecraft wants a max of 8
watts, any help out there???
The TS-850S doesn't have such an output, at least not according to the
manual that came with mine. So you need to make or acquire an attenuator as
Don suggested.
However, you might want to consider a 20 dB attenuator, just in case you
accidentally forget to lower the TS-850S power when you go from HF to the
transverter. You can still run the TS-850S at 10 watts or so and keep the
XV-222 happy, but your XV-222 may be better protected this way.
This'll keep things running until your friend sees the light and gets a K2
:-)
Enjoy!
