Description of Duties: Under the direction of the Ranid Frogs Projects 
Coordinator, the Amphibians and Reptiles Biologist will be responsible for 
planning, organizing, coordinating, conducting and analyzing data for projects 
related to inventory, monitoring, management and conservation of terrestrial 
wildlife and habitats with emphasis on amphibians and reptiles. This position 
will train and supervise activities of other professional and subordinate 
personnel within areas of expertise and responsibility and directs the work and 
activities of seasonal and volunteer staff. Develops reports and articles, 
prepares charts, correspondence, graphs, maps and text for intra-Departmental 
use and for technical and popular publications.

Makes presentations at scientific conferences, workshops and training sessions 
and to Department personnel, other agencies and to the general public and 
learns to advise the Department on policies, rules, laws and issues within 
scope of activity and expertise. Counsels outside groups and agencies, and the 
public in matters relating to wildlife and habitat, especially with regard to 
amphibians and reptiles. Operates and maintains a variety of specialized 
equipment common to terrestrial, aquatic and habitat-oriented wildlife work and 
to office duties associated with such work and uses standard and 4WD vehicles 
and watercraft in field work and conducts low-level aerial surveys from 
fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Additionally, attends staff and 
project-planning meetings and performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The candidate must have knowledge in: habitat 
and wildlife field investigation, management and conservation techniques, 
species identification and habitat requirements for Arizona wildlife, plants 
and habitats in particular for amphibians and reptiles; scientific data 
collection procedures, basic statistical analysis techniques, Game and Fish and 
environmental laws, regulations, policies and procedures, topographic map 
interpretation  and use.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in data gathering, applying standardized 
techniques and general wildlife survey techniques in field and laboratory 
settings; apply habitat and wildlife management techniques; verbal and written 
communications; public relations; supervision; delegation; problem-solving and 
interpersonal relationships.

The preferred candidate will be able to camp, hike, boat or raft while working 
in alone or with a partner in primitive field conditions.

The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in a wildlife science or a closely 
related field from an accredited college or university.

Employment is contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid 
state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who 
drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must 
maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver 
training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
