Hi All,

I wanted to ask the advice of anyone who has experience with projects in
Africa- specifically Zambia in terms of costs of bike and GPS equipment.

I will be training local enumerators to collect data on elephant crop
raiding damage across their communities near a national park.
I plan to provide each team (of two people) one GPS unit, a solar charger
and two bicycles. The number of teams will depend on the funding I secure.

I am not sure how much to budget for bicycles- I will probably buy them in
the local town but I dont know the price per bike, and then I'll need to
transport them to the villages.
Does anyone has a suggestion of how much a bike in Zambia costs? I also
thought of trying to get sponsorship from a bicycle company. Does anyone
have experience with this?

Secondly I am looking for advice as to which GPS unit/Solar chargers to use
that are easy to use, rugged and long lasting.
I thought of the Garmin eTrex 10 which are priced at approx $100 each and
a 5V 200mA solar charger at about $30 each

Any advice regarding bikes, GPS or solar chargers will be most welcome!

Many thanks!

Tania
