*MORE ABOUT FRESHWATER LIFE:*
What we do?
Prevent extinctions in freshwaters and restore freshwater biodiversity.

Why?
Freshwaters are key to life on Earth. They let us drink, bathe, and water
livestock and crops. They provide roughly a third of all wild caught fish
that people eat. Freshwaters are a precious resource that cover only 0.8%
of Earth’s surface, yet are home to 27% of all extinctions in the last 400
years.

How?
Invasive species are responsible, in part, for about 40% of all freshwater
species extinctions. Oftentimes invasive species can be eradicated, after
which even native species on the edge of extinction can recover. Their
eradication often provides the added benefits of improved water quality and
the protection of native species fisheries.

Team
Our staff have expertise in invasive species eradication, freshwater
species conservation, and building conservation organizations. Our Advisory
Board is diverse in its national representation and gender, but also in
expertise including indigenous rights, human rights, angling, science,
conservation and business. They all share a passion for excellence.

Approach
We do high profile projects in the US that advance the field and our
abilities. We seek out exceptional organizations in other countries then
collaborate with them to make more high impact projects happen more
quickly. We provide partners with what they need to succeed; anything from
help with project design, permitting, and implementation to funding,
monitoring, and publicity. Good partners join our international network of
high-functioning organizations with expertise in all aspects of invasive
freshwater animal eradication. Our core funding comes from private donors
and US-based projects. International project funding comes from private
donors and project specific funders.

Values
-Every project saves a species from extinction.
-A project is a learning experience that all parties can use to make the
next project better.
-Freshwaters are threatened globally, so having partners from around the
world is crucial to preventing freshwater species extinctions.

Measuring Impact
-We measure our impact using these metrics:
-Number of species downlisted on the IUCN Red List from Critically
Endangered to -Endangered or from Endangered to Vulnerable.
-Number of partners that have implemented their own projects after working
with us.
-Number of countries in which there are successful freshwater invasive
eradications, and funding available for more projects.
