This position is located within the Plains Area, at the US Meat Animal Research 
Center in Clay Center, NE. In this position, you will help to develop 
scientific information and new technology to solve high priority problems for 
the U.S. beef, sheep, and swine industries and provide research solutions for 
USDA's regulatory and action agencies.

Duties

  *   Provide scientific leadership and expertise toward the elimination of 
risk of Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella, and other foodborne pathogens 
thereby reducing the risk of foodborne illness from the consumption of red meat.
  *   Identify solutions to high priority meat safety problems.
  *   Establish collaborative multidisciplinary projects with ARS and other 
researchers.
  *   Evaluate the influence of spatiotemporal, environmental, and wildlife 
factors on pathogen and antibiotic resistance occurrence and transmission 
dynamics in preharvest and postharvest production of beef and pork.

Qualifications
Microbiology, or specific area of study such as bacteriology, virology, 
mycology, algology, protozoology, parasitology, immunology, serology, microbial 
genetics, or soil microbiology; or specific applied fields of microbiology such 
as clinical and public health microbiology, food technology, production 
processes, industrial fermentation, pollution, etc. Graduate study in related 
fields such as experimental pathology, infectious diseases, epidemiology, 
biochemistry, animal or plant physiology, genetics, plant pathology, and insect 
disease control, may also be pertinent, provided it has direct application to 
microbiological work. Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of 
specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the 
Federal service or possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or possess an 
equivalent combination of graduate level education and experience
