Position Title: Assistant Professor of Silviculture
The Department of Environmental Sciences at the Tennessee State University 
(TSU) invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track position as Assistant 
Professor of Silviculture. We seek candidates specializing in silviculture or 
applied forest ecology, focusing on issues affecting forest ecosystems in 
Tennessee and the southeastern U.S. Potential research areas include managing 
forests for climate change adaptation, regeneration, forest restoration, 
productivity, ecosystem services, and stand dynamics.
 The successful candidate will develop an internationally recognized research 
program to inform forest ecosystem management in Tennessee and the region. 
Collaboration with the Tennessee Division of Forestry, the Cooperative 
Extension Service at TSU, and the Department of Forestry, Wildlife, and 
Fisheries at the University of Tennessee is expected.
 Indicators of an internationally recognized research program include securing 
competitive external funding, publishing in leading peer-reviewed journals, 
advancing understanding of silviculture, and mentoring graduate researchers. 
Teaching responsibilities include an undergraduate course and lab in 
Silviculture, and a graduate course in the candidate's area of expertise. The 
incumbent will also contribute to the Department’s pursuit of Society of 
American Foresters accreditation for an undergraduate degree in Natural 
Resources and Ecosystem Management, along with outreach activities for 
forestland owners and the forest industry in Tennessee.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate must possess an earned Ph.D. in forestry, 
silviculture, applied forest ecology, or a closely related field. Preference 
will be given to candidates with at least one degree from a Society of American 
Foresters accredited professional forest management program. A demonstrated 
research record, including peer-reviewed journal articles and experience with 
research grant applications, is essential. Applicants should also have 
experience or a demonstrated interest in teaching and outreach/extension.
 About the Department of Environmental Sciences:
The Environmental Sciences program at TSU is one of five departments in the 
College of Agriculture. The Department offers a Master's degree in 
Environmental Science and collaborates on a Ph.D. program in Agricultural 
Sciences. Plans are underway to pursue an independent Ph.D. program.
