Tim Donohue commented on DS-488:
--------------------------------
Hi Hilton,
Just to add a few more details to Robin's point. The Tomcat5.5 "admin" web
application is considered optional when installing Tomcat. If you visit the
Tomcat 5.5 download page (http://tomcat.apache.org/download-55.cgi), it's
listed separately from the "Core" (which is Tomcat itself) under the
"Administration Web Application" downloads. So, people will only be affected
by this potential problem if they are both using XMLUI and have installed
Tomcat 5.5's optional "admin" webapp.
In addition, as far as I can tell, in Tomcat 6.0, this "Administration Web
Application" (/admin) is no longer available or distributed with Tomcat. If
you visit the Tomcat 6.0 download page
(http://tomcat.apache.org/download-60.cgi), there's no longer an /admin web
application available. In addition, if you download and install the "Core" of
Tomcat 6.0, you only end up with the following webapps:
/docs
/examples
/host-manager
/manager
/ROOT
So, I agree with Robin's point. It's great that you've highlighted that this
could be a problem (in case others have installed the "/admin" webapp in Tomcat
5.5). But, I'd also worry we'd be misleading people as this "/admin" webapp no
longer exists in Tomcat 6.0, and is optional in Tomcat 5.5.
Thanks for bringing this issue forward -- hopefully it will benefit everyone.
If we start to notice many others installing that "/admin" webapp, we could
always add a small note to the docs to recommend against installing it (or to
rename it if you do wish to install it).

> Our repository is setup to use the XMLUI by default.
> See: http://ir.sun.ac.za/wiki/index.php/Default_Interface
> However the https://scholar.sun.ac.za/admin links fail after the repository
> managers logs in.
> It seems that the "Administrator" cocoon aspect fails to build healthy URI's
> after an administrator login.
