Hi, We appear to have an intermittent problem accessing the local network at WMT, see:
https://www.hadrian-way.co.uk/Misc/WMT_Network_Configuration.png What is supposed to happen is that the Visitor (or staff member) connects to the WiFi signal provided by the two outdoor Antennas. Their device is then provided with an IP Address by the Webserver, which incorporates a DHCP server. The Webserver also runs a tool called nodogsplash, which automatically directs Visitors to a splash page on their browser to provide access to a site guide etc. Staff members can then use SSH to log on to any of the devices on the WMT Network to check water levels, etc. This system has worked fine since before lockdown, but has just become intermittent. I found that I can always connect to the WiFi Antenna, which indicates that the Webserver is working and providing an IP Address. On one or two occasions, I was then able to load the WMT-Guest.com page and once I was able to SSH into the VPN Server. However, most of the time I couldn't access the network. On Tuesday, I intend to go to the site and remove the kit for testing here. It would be useful though to have any ideas on what it could be before I go. -- Terry Coles -- Next meeting: Online, Jitsi, Tuesday, 2024-10-01 20:00 Check to whom you are replying Meetings, mailing list, IRC, ... https://dorset.lug.org.uk New thread, don't hijack: mailto:dorset@mailman.lug.org.uk
