Yes. I originally wanted to use Redo Backup, but that needs a location for the data. > - Do you recall why it said one or two files couldn't be copied? It had around 20 bytes and copied perfectly later. The rest seemed to be related to a large dump of development data which included the contents of a Raspberry Pi SDCard; it was barfing at trying to copy /dev/tty1 etc. > - You copied /home/terry from the old disk into /home/terry on a live, > running, system whilst logged in as terry? Initially I tried to do it from a live disc. That was my first mistake, because everything ended up as being owned by root and the desktop would not run properly. That was when I made my second mistake. What I should have done is to put the old disk back until I could get a suitable temporary storage solution. What I actually did was to re-install Kubuntu from the 19.10 disc and then drag the data across again. > - You still have the old disk unaltered so in theory the wallet is safe > and booting from that disk would regain access? It might not (see above). I haven't really got time to try it until after the weekend because I'm going 'up North' tomorrow morning and today is pretty much booked up. BTW. I can now get into email on this machine, but I had to do it by dredging my memory for passwords and starting a new KWallet wallet. -- Terry Coles -- Next meeting: BEC, Bournemouth, Tuesday, 2019-12-03 20:00 Check to whom you are replying Meetings, mailing list, IRC, ... http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ New thread, don't hijack: mailto:dorset@mailman.lug.org.uk
