Whacking someone in the head with a fish could well be
illegal... but fish are not illegal:-) [1]

Similarly typing "dig <blasphemous-word>.example" may
be argued to cause some theoretical illegality in some
locations but neither the DNS protocol nor service is
illegal as a result.

And IANAL.

But it's ok that we disagree that this is overblown,
except for the way in which it makes the conversation
needlessly harder.
