If we care so much about consistency that we are willing to purge subdomains when we get an NXDOMAIN that contains them, then we care enough to not cache NXDOMAINs. And of course, we do not care enough to not cache NXDOMAINs, nor should we, because not caching NXDOMAINs would probably melt the root and TLD servers at this point.
