It is definitely considered a bug and has had a CR open for it for
almost 10 years, but since there has been no noticeable, practical
operational impact it has never had any time spent on addressing it.

qname-minimisation would change that of course, and personally I don't
mind.  It's nice to finally close out CRs from the long long ago.

Incidentally, the logic of how a name is resolved by Akamai's
nameservers varies depending on the type of service the zone is
providing.  This bug is particular to only one type of service.
