Indeed, in some respects it /appears/ to be superior to /etc/hosts and
/etc/ethers.  With a hostfile type solution the names of systems are
always resolved irrespective of if they are online or not (obviously!).
 With the dhcp-hostsfile solution hosts which are not connected to the
network do not resolve.  Many programs will wait several seconds before
concluding that a host is down, however, a failed DNS resolution
normally results in an instant error.
