I went through the LFS book and installation about ten years ago and did not keep it around as my daily driver. One soon learns the benefits of a binary distribution and the teams that provide just needed things like security updates that are integrated with the rest of the system. After using Debian for almost ten years at the time, that was an eye opening experience.
