I'm the previous author, and yeah - there are some parts which are undoubtedly bad translations but they're mostly legacy.
Anyway, as for many of the fuzzy translations, it comes to when the Django team uses things like "billion" which happens to be translated into "biljon" or "miljard" depending on what they meant, and I'm not entirely sure. As for the new translation - great work, but I'd have to say some of the translations aren't the best I've seen, but for the most part they're quite good. Tad bit sad how the message IDs are brutally changed in every commit.
