Luke, As a former US Government Employee I resent the comment that I was hired because I could be briw beat into doing what my boss ordered even if it was against the law. All Government workers are not mindless drones that mimic the work of the information workers in Orwell's 1984. Granted the person that dioes stand up for legality may suffer pressure from above but speaking from first hand experience you can stand on your morals and abide by the law and not get canned for it.
As for this I worry about Orwell's predictions coming to fruition as Technology advances. It is very easy now to monitor almost everything. If you have EZ-pass or some other electronic toll device you can easily be cited for speeding on a Turnpike as your are marked on entry and exit with a time stamp. A short calculation can get your speed and bingo you get mailed a ticket for speeding. I just wonder if they only have the ability to manipulate the camera when the netbook/laptop is on the schools network. >>> Luke S Crawford <l...@prgmr.com> 02/18/10 3:23 PM >>> Benjamin Krueger <benja...@seattlefenix.net> writes: > I have no particular question for the list, other than this. On one hand, I agree with you, but on the other hand, if you are not the type who follows orders, you are unlikely to get and keep a government job; the entire system is setup to select for the sort of people who can be cowed into doing this sort of thing. The blame here should be focused on the political people who made this decision. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lopsa.org http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/ _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lopsa.org http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
