Agreed. I find ESXi to be faster than VMware Server and easier to
manage. With VMware Server you have to manage the Linux/Windows OS and
VMware Server, which is a real hassle.

VMWare Server is a terrible product.  I wouldn't recommend it for any
purpose.

Perhaps you should look at ESXi?  Does the host need to be Linux, or
perhaps
bare metal would be ok?
