They're still finding major bugs in the code. See how the recently told people to stop using the RAID5 stuff. And like ZFS, I feel like this violates some major layering and abstraction ideals (not rules) which makes managing and using space harder than is really needed. In general, since the end user wants to keep using his Drobo, but also wants to be able to manage his photos in a non-optimal way, then it might actually be better to get a second drobo, a pair of smaller SSDs and only put the photos on there. He won't really see much through put performance increase, but might see much better latency numbers.
