Nothing running hmm. I'm guessing you don't have another board just to see if this one might have a hardware problem.
You could try blitting in memory surfaces to in memory that should be fast. You could also try blitting from a subsurface of the video ram back on itself like copy area. Then memory to vram and vram to memory. I can't see any reason for this to be slow. The above is just trying to see if you have some memory bandwith issues. If your using a demo board it could be defective. Given what you have shown I'd now be a bit suspicious of my hardware.
