Hi, I've also used Emulator in Windows 8 without any problems. (With VirtualBox 4.2.10).

In general the Emulator VM depends on the characteristics of the VirtualBox setup on the host. Do you have enough RAM, do you have VirtualBox 4.2 or newer (I think we officially support 4.1 onwards tho).
