Are you referring to curses border characters? They shouldn't be a
problem at all with plain old xfonts.

To me xfonts (like terminus) look way more crisp on such monitors
(with say size 24px or something similar depending on resolution) than
those heavily AA TTF freetype fonts.

But a matter of taste I presume.
