If you use hard links, don't delete the hard links, and also monitor the "farm," then categorization and organization become the same problem. Edit the id3 tag and the file is automatically moved. Drop new files into an incoming folder, and then remove them after you check that they've been put in the right place. But lose no information if the incoming files were tagged incorrectly. I'm still thinking about other things, but I like this a lot. One reason that one may want to preserve the symlink option, as an option, is that someone may have their music on an external drive.
