Can I get lazy consensus on requiring users to request Mwiki accounts

Oh, please do.... It looked to me more like it was about three a minute
in the wee hours of the morning.

Any Administrator ("sysop") can create a new user account. I will
research what change is required to block other sign-up methods.

Currently, Mwiki is under massive attack by spammers. Thanks to the
valiant efforts of volunteers Adailton, Helen russian, Pitonyak, and
Yak, we are staying even: the lifetime of spam may be a few hours, but
is usually only a few minutes.

However, the spammers are creating new spam accounts (the pattern in
the names is quite apparent) at a rate of one every minute or two, and
24/7. We cannot survive that kind of onslaught indefinitely.

It requires restraint to not delete accounts because they are created in
this big batch have have names that look like the other spammer accounts
(drugcookie14; for example).

I have been doing some of that (deleting brand-new accounts) in hopes of sabotaging the spammers' routines. Maybe it's helped, maybe not. The two obvious patterns are word-number-word, and word-word-number: all quite suitable for screen names or game sign-ups, but not at all like the names on our wiki. Go ahead and delete a random few, just for fun.
