I agree. The time volunteers (thanks!) are spending on deleting spammers can be better spent in other ways. Let's just make sure that registrations can be approved easily (e.g., ask them to write to ooo-dev with "Mediawiki account request" as subject, or similar). We should then remove the limitation, if still active, on new users not being able to post for the first days after registration.
