It seems I've started quite an interesting debate here :-)
I think that OpenOffice would be a much better name for the reasons already mentioned by several others. I would also like to state that I feel the name *is* important, and that we should do something about it if possible, or at least in some organised way ask other volunteers than those on the marketing list what they think.
In Denmark, the product is always referred to as OpenOffice when speaking because saying "OpenOffice.org" is difficult and sounds silly. This could be different in other countries, but since OpenOffice is the de facto name here, a formal name change would not be considered a rebranding at all. It would just be a justification to make the de jure and the de facto name be the same.
