FWIW the test passed 90 of 90 beasting 3 rounds by 30, and never showed up on
over a dozen subsequent full core runs and a couple top level runs. The 2 sec
wait at the end of the test, while ugly does seem to work. The feature does not
leak threads any time other than if a test shuts down too quickly. The threads
are shutdown, just not awaited.
