DataStax invested millions of dollars into Cassandra, tens of thousands of man hours, hosted hundreds of events and has been a major factor in the success of the project.
ScyllaDB wants us to change the C* protocol in order to improve features in a competing database which contributes nothing back to the Cassandra community. Seems a little different to me.
